INFORMATION
THE HILL HOUSE BOX
Architect: Carmody Groarke
The Hill House Box is a temporary structure built around Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Hill House
in Helensburgh, Scotland. Its purpose is to protect the historic building from moisture while allowing
ongoing restoration work.
The intervention takes the form of a steel frame wrapped in a translucent metal mesh, which allows air
and light to pass through while shielding the house from rain and wind. This innovative structure lets visitors
experience the house from elevated walkways, offering unique perspectives of the building.
