7132 HOTEL, VALS, SWITZERLAND

The 7132 Hotel, originally known as Therme Vals, is an iconic architectural project located in the alpine village
of Vals, Switzerland. Designed by the renowned Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, the spa complex was completed
in 1996 and has since become a masterpiece of contemporary architecture, admired for its deep engagement
with place, materiality, and sensory experience.

Zumthor’s approach to the design of Therme Vals was rooted in a profound respect for the local environment
and cultural context. He conceived the building as a structure "born of the mountain," blending seamlessly into
the surrounding landscape. The architecture evokes a sense of permanence, echoing the timeless character of
the alpine setting.

The design emphasizes the ritualistic and contemplative aspects of bathing, drawing inspiration from ancient
Roman and Japanese bath cultures. The layout guides visitors through a series of spatial sequences, evoking
a sense of discovery and introspection.
