INFORMATION

MAISON LOUIS CARRÉ, BAZOCHES-SUR-GUYONNE, FRANCE

The Maison Louis Carré is a villa designed by Alvar Aalto between 1956 and 1959.
It is one of Aalto’s few works in France and one of the most accomplished examples of his mature period.

It was commissioned by Louis Carré, a renowned art dealer and collector of modern art, who wanted a house that would function both
as a private residence and as a place for receptions and the display of his art collection. Aalto designed the entire ensemble—architecture,
furniture, and lighting—following a total design approach consistent with his humanistic vision. The house is now listed as a historic
monument and is open to the public.
